Join me for an evening of kirtan at Yoga Mandali in Saratoga Springs, NY. I’ll accompany the chant on harmonium and ekatara, and will be in the grand company of Justin Green on Drums and Keli Lalita on Bells!

Kirtan isn’t an ordinary concert, but rather a participatory call-and-response chanting practice of Sanskrit mantras, the Divine Names. I am so happy to be offering monthly 11 Hanuman Chalisas at Broome St. Temple again through the summer (i.e.: until the Temple plans to move in September)...this month will be Tuesday, July 21st at 7pm. All are very welcome, as always. We will have word sheets and welcome vegetarian no-egg prasad and/or flowers to be offered to Hanumanji and shared afterwards amongst us.

Sweet time together, singing the many names of the One. Kirtan is call and response chanting in the Hindu tradition, with simple, beautiful melodies to soften the heart so that the seed sounds of the Sanskrit Names can take root and flower there. 

Our chanting is accompanied by harmonium (portable hand-pumped reed-keyboard) and hand drums—Jaidev will be joining me again this month, which is always a joy.

This is a potentially deep and profound meditation practice, but there are no complex intentions associated with these mantras: nothing to learn, really, and nothing to change. Only...the calling out to our own true nature as Love.

This opening kirtan for Leigh Evans' Yoga Sukhavati Art of Sound teacher training course is open for all to join, whether attending the rest of the course or not. We’ll start our weekend right with a deliciously long, deep dive into the practice of Kirtan, with Tom Cuccinatta drumming and Seth Lieberman on bells to accompany us. For those that are new to namakirtan chant practice, there will be some basic explanation and instruction, but mostly we will immerse ourselves in a three-hour practice, and explore this ancient devotional discipline together.
